Deadly Feathers - Des Hunt Novel Study

Deadly Feathers is a novel written by New Zealand author Des Hunt. Like of all of Des' novels the reader is taken on an adventure where there is a mystery that needs to be solved but things are never as straight forward as they seem.

Noah lived in big city until his parents decided to move to Stewart Island where he expects there will be nothing to do. Things got worse when he found out he was the only boy, his age, at the school and the only girl his age, Hailey, was quick to remind him that he didn't know anything about native birds. Noah finds himself the school laughing stock when he tells his class that he has seen a large colourful parrot, a scarlet macaw. As well as the large parrot Noah also started noticing that some native birds on the island are sick. Noah wondered if the exotic parrot is linked to the sick native parrots but will anyone believe him. The first person he needed to convince was Hailey.

The novel study includes a range of reading comprehension skills, tier 2 and 3 vocabulary and meaningful follow-up activities that encourage the reader to do more than just read the novel. It is aimed at students in years 7-9 and will take 3-5 weeks to complete.
