To Trap a Thief Novel Study
To Trap a Thief is a novel written by New Zealand author Des Hunt. Like all of Des' novels the reader is taken on the journey of solving a mystery and like all good mysteries things are never as straight forward as they seem.
This novel starts off in Bulls where we meet Connor and his mate Harvey. After a local bad-boy starts causing trouble it is decided that Connor and Harvey will join Connors soon to be step-grandparents, Denzil and Rosen, on a campervan around the top of the South Island. Connor and Harvey soon realise the campervan trip isn't going to be as boring as they expected with a clever con-man, stolen gear and mysterious coding messages that need to be solved. Add to this some dinosaur fossils and an exciting twist and this novel has plenty of tension and excitement.
The novel study includes a range of reading comprehension skills, tier 2 and 3 vocabulary and meaningful follow-up activities that encourage the reader to do more than just read the novel. It is aimed at students in year 7-9 and will take 3-5 weeks to complete.
